Athletic Greens Australia. AG1 Review. Is It Good?

Updated: Apr 9

Athletic Greens Australia

Today, we're talking about Athletic Greens and their product, AG1.

There is a lot of noise on the internet with both good and bad reviews of AG1. In this blog post, we look into the product, AG1, which is manufactured by Athletic Greens, we find out if it really works and has health benefits that they claim, we look at the cost, why certain "influencers" are promoting it (an interesting topic), AG1 ingredients, and give you our final thoughts.

We will cover:

--

What is Athletic Greens?

Athletic Greens is a New-York based company founded by Chris “Kiwi” Ashenden. He is a native of New Zealand, hence the nickname "Kiwi".

Athletic Greens is not a product itself, it is a company.

What is AG1?

AG1 is a green nutritional supplement manufactured by the company Athletic Greens.

AG1 is short for Athletic Greens 1 and is the flagship product offered by Athletic Greens, the company "dedicated to simplifying and enhancing daily nutrition".

In this section, we'll explore what AG1 is, what it contains, and how it/if can benefit your overall health and well-being.

AG1: The All-in-One Nutrition Solution:

AG1 is "more than just a supplement"; it's a comprehensive approach to daily nutrition. Apparently. It is designed to provide a wide array of essential nutrients in one convenient dose, making it easier for individuals to meet their daily nutritional needs. This sounds promising and later in this blog post we will look into reviews of AG1.

Here are some key aspects of AG1:

1. Whole Food Sourcing: AG1 places a strong emphasis on sourcing ingredients from whole foods whenever possible. This means that the nutrients you get are in a form that's closer to their natural state, increasing their bioavailability and making them easier for your body to absorb. However, the label is confusing to read and may be hiding something. More on this later.

2. Comprehensive Formula: AG1 doesn't just focus on a single nutrient; it offers a comprehensive blend of vitamins, minerals, probiotics, antioxidants, adaptogens, and digestive enzymes. This all-encompassing approach ensures that you cover multiple aspects of your health in one product. This is good, and a formula that is a all-in-one blend is good.

3. Quality and Transparency: Athletic Greens is committed to sourcing high-quality ingredients and conducting rigorous testing to ensure purity and safety. They provide transparency about their manufacturing processes, instilling confidence in consumers. The ingredients' label may not be as informative, however.

4. Digestive Support: One notable feature of AG1 is its inclusion of probiotics and digestive enzymes. These components support gut health, helping in the absorption of nutrients and promoting overall digestive well-being. Having these included is a good thing.

5. Convenience and Taste: Unlike many greens supplements that may be challenging to consume due to taste or texture, AG1 is known for its pleasant flavour. It comes in a convenient powder form that can be effortlessly mixed with water or incorporated into smoothies.

6. Holistic Approach: While the name suggests it's for athletes, AG1 is suitable for a broad audience. Whether you're an active individual looking to optimise your performance or simply seeking a nutritional boost for overall well-being, AG1 may cater to diverse health goals.

How to Incorporate AG1:

Incorporating AG1 into your daily routine is straightforward. A single scoop of the powder can be mixed with water, your favourite beverage, or added to smoothies. This hassle-free approach ensures that you effortlessly receive a spectrum of essential nutrients.

Influencer marketing

This is a key reason to be careful/skeptical of AG1 and Athletic Greens. Have a watch of this video:

Let's cut to the chase: Athletic Greens made a significant impact on the market using influencers to promote the product, which led to a saturation of influencer-driven content.

This raised questions among normal consumers about the necessity of such robust influencer marketing efforts for a product's quality. Many individuals want genuine, non-paid reviews to gain a more unbiased perspective.

Why flood the market with influencers to rave about your product if your product is so good anyway?

The flood of influencer reviews is upsetting a lot of potential customers

There is a fascinating article here about how Athletic Greens go about attracting influencers to promote their product.

Ingredients:

Why you should be careful of the ingredients:

Athletic Greens has 75 ingredients which are divided into four proprietary 'blends'. And this is why you have to be careful. You know how much of each blend you are getting, but you don't know how much of each ingredient within that blend you are consuming.

It's confusing, pointless, and you may be paying way over the odds for cheap ingredients.

If this dietary supplement is so good, why don't Athletic Greens tell us exactly how much of each ingredient in in the dose?

Taste

A lot of people seem happy with the taste of taste of AG1 (because it doesn't taste disgusting), so we applaud Athletic Greens for that.

"Mild but Forgettable"

"AG1's taste falls into the mild category, which might be a pro for some but a con for others. Personally, I found it a bit forgettable. While it doesn't have a strong, off-putting taste, it lacks a distinct flavour that would make me look forward to it each day. It's drinkable, but it didn't make go go Wow. It's ok."

"Takes Some Getting Used To"

"I've been using AG1 for a few weeks now, and I must admit that the taste took some getting used to. It's not terrible, but it does taste of earthy green chalk water. However, I appreciate the nutritional benefits it offers, so I'm willing to overlook the taste. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't taste bad, it's just meh."

"Decent, But Not Outstanding"

"AG1's taste is decent but not outstanding. It's neither the best nor the worst I've tried. The mild sweetness is a plus, but there's still a subtle grassy note that lingers. If taste is a top priority for you, there might be other options to consider."

"An Acquired Taste"

"AG1's taste is, without a doubt, an acquired one. It's not overly sweet or artificial, which is a plus, but it has a distinct earthiness that might not be for everyone. If you're new to greens supplements, be prepared for a unique taste experience. I don't mind it."

"Smooth Texture, Average Taste"

"I appreciate AG1's smooth texture (only if you mix it well), but the taste is just ok for me. It's not bad, but it's also not exceptional. It can get a bit gritty if you don't mix it properly, but overall it's not too bad."

AG1 Reviews

Just be careful when looking at reviews of AG1 and Athletic Greens. The company has already been exposed by paying loads of influencers to say and write good things about AG1.

As mentioned, if AG1 is so good, why pay a bucket load of influencers and not rely on genuine customer reviews?

It's obvious Athletic Greens have flooded the market with influencer reviews, not real customer reviews

Alternatives to Athletic Greens

There are bucket loads of foundational nutritional drinks out there and you have to be careful when choosing the right dietary supplement. AG1 does deliver good nutritional value, but the lack of honesty about ingredients and the fact that they reply on influencers to post good reviews makes us skeptical.

There is a superb supplement which is another green nutritional drink that is a blend of organic superfoods, it's packed with fibre, prebiotics and probiotics, it works for gut health and on top of this, it actually helps support healthy blood sugar levels.

And, it's $49/bottle compared to AG1's $100 if you try it for the recommended six months. And, unlike Athletic Greens, no subscription! Plus, it has a 60-day money-back guarantee thrown in as well. It's a no-brainer.

Oh, and 96% of customers gave it 5/5. And no, they weren't paid influencers 😂

It's currently on sale with free global shipping here.

Final Thoughts

  • Why not be more transparent about the ingredients? Athletic Greens does not list the exact ingredient amounts for proprietary blends in AG1. Why?

  • Why pay loads of influencers to market the product if AG1 is so good?

  • It is very expensive, it'll set you back over $1000 every year, more if you don't have a subscription.

  • There is a lack of scientific evidence or research to tell us how effective AG1 is, or if it is safe.

There are many reasons to be skeptical of AG1 and Athletic Greens. We love it how they have included probiotics and it will give you a good amount of nutrients, but that's about it.

We prefer this alternative, it's currently on sale with free shipping worldwide.

Further Reading:

Green superfoods and nutritional drinks can be very effective. Many people report increased energy levels and a better immune system. The best greens powders should contain essential nutrients such a vitamin c and zinc (there is no zinc in AG1) and B vitamins. AG1 (and Athletic Greens Ultimate Daily) are very expensive and many people have complained about the costs. Maybe the reason why they are so high is because they are paying influencers so much money to promote their products.

At DietPills.com.au, we are massive fans of super greens (drinks, supplements etc). They can be excellent and we hope that this blog post gives you some more understanding of Athletic Greens in Australia. Foundational nutrition drinks are everywhere in the market, so you are right in doing your own research and reading this blog. Well done :)

We like greens supplements because these vibrant blends of nutrient-dense greens, often including ingredients like spirulina, chlorella, kale, spinach, and more, are touted for their potential health benefits. (Be careful of artificial colors). In this article, we'll explore why super greens supplements may be beneficial additions to your daily nutrition.

1. Nutrient Density:

One of the primary reasons super greens supplements stand out is their exceptional nutrient density. These supplements typically pack a wide array of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytonutrients into a single serving. This concentrated nutrient content can help individuals meet their daily nutritional needs more easily, especially if they have dietary restrictions or busy lifestyles. Vitamin K is a good addition in a green powder as is green tea extract. There is no evidence of nutrients in green supplements to assist with neural support.

2. Easy Nutrient Absorption:

Super greens supplements often contain ingredients that are readily absorbed by the body. For instance, spirulina and chlorella are rich in chlorophyll, a compound that supports the body's detoxification processes and enhances nutrient absorption. This means that the nutrients in super greens are efficiently utilised by the body.

3. Alkalising Properties:

Many super greens are alkaline in nature, which can help balance the body's pH levels. Maintaining a slightly alkaline environment in the body is associated with various health benefits, including improved energy levels, reduced inflammation, and support for overall well-being.

4. Antioxidant Power:

Antioxidants are essential for combating oxidative stress and reducing the risk of chronic diseases. Super greens supplements are often packed with antioxidants, such as vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta-carotene, which help neutralise harmful free radicals in the body.

5. Digestive Health:

Super greens frequently contain fibre, enzymes, and probiotics that support digestive health. Fibre aids in regular bowel movements, enzymes assist in the breakdown of nutrients, and probiotics promote a healthy gut microbiome. A well-functioning digestive system is crucial for overall health.

6. Energy and Vitality:

The rich nutrient content in super greens can contribute to increased energy levels and vitality. Many users report feeling more alert and energised after incorporating these supplements into their daily routine.

7. Convenient and Time-Saving:

In our fast-paced lives, obtaining a wide range of nutrients from whole foods can be challenging. Super greens supplements offer a convenient and time-saving solution. A quick scoop mixed with water or added to a smoothie can provide a nutritional boost in seconds.

8. Versatility:

Super greens supplements are versatile and can be customised to meet individual preferences. You can blend them with various liquids, incorporate them into recipes, or combine them with other supplements.

When considering nutritional supplements to enhance your well-being, it's essential to be an informed consumer. Not all supplements are created equal, and making the right choices can significantly impact your health. Here are some key factors to look for when selecting nutritional supplements:

1. Quality and Purity: First and foremost, prioritise supplements from reputable brands that adhere to strict quality control standards. Look for products that have been third-party tested for purity and potency. This ensures that what's on the label matches what's in the bottle, and that the product is free from contaminants.

2. Ingredient Transparency: A trustworthy supplement brand should provide clear and detailed information about the ingredients in their products. It's important to know what you're putting into your body, so look for labels that list all ingredients and their respective dosages.

3. Bioavailability: Not all forms of nutrients are easily absorbed by the body. Seek supplements that use bioavailable forms of vitamins and minerals. For example, some minerals like magnesium citrate are more easily absorbed than magnesium oxide.

4. Scientific Backing: Look for supplements that have scientific research supporting their claims. Clinical studies and trials can provide evidence of a product's effectiveness and safety.

5. Appropriate Dosages: Ensure that the supplement provides an appropriate dosage of the nutrient you're seeking. Some nutrients may require higher or lower doses for optimal health benefits.

6. Synergistic Ingredients: Some supplements are designed with a combination of nutrients that work synergistically. For example, vitamin D is often paired with vitamin K2 for better absorption and utilisation in the body.

7. Allergen Information: If you have allergies or sensitivities, check for allergen information on the label. Reputable brands typically include this information to help consumers make informed choices.

8. Non-GMO and Organic Options: If you prefer non-genetically modified (non-GMO) or organic products, look for supplements that meet these criteria. They may be labelled as such.

9. Avoid Artificial Additives: Try to avoid supplements or superfood blends with artificial colours, flavours, sweeteners, and preservatives. Clean, natural ingredients are usually a better choice for overall health.

10. Consult a Healthcare Professional: Before adding any new supplement to your regimen, consult with a healthcare professional. They can help you determine your specific nutritional needs and guide you toward the right supplements for your good health goals.

Remember that supplements should complement a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle, not replace them. It's crucial to maintain a well-rounded diet rich in whole foods and consult with a healthcare provider to address any specific health concerns or deficiencies you may have.

If you do take a superfood supplement like vital all-in-one, one greens supplement, or something similar, take them every single day, check the instructions about taking them on an empty stomach, and watch out for side effects. Last year, there were multiple reported cases of side effects from consumers on a dietary supplement. Keep an eye out for artificial sweeteners and make sure that the product has all the essential nutrients you need.

Conclusion on Athletic Greens Australia

The first thing to say is that super greens supplements are gaining popularity for good reason. In addition to healthy aging, their nutrient density, easy absorption, gut health, energy production, alkalising properties, antioxidant power, digestive support, energy-boosting potential, and convenience make them valuable additions to a balanced diet.

However, it's important to choose a high-quality product from a reputable brand and consult with a healthcare professional before making significant dietary changes.

Incorporating super greens into your daily routine may help you unlock the benefits of a nutrient-packed, vibrant lifestyle. If you can add immune support into the mix and keep an eye for dodgy artificial sweeteners and artificial colours, then these dietary supplements might be an excellent addition to your overall health plan.

The nutritional value of supplements should always be a priority and that is why we don't like Athletic Greens masking the quantities of some of the ingredients as mentioned above.

Last month, the company apparently failed to answer this question on social media when asked. We cannot comment on other Athletic Greens Products as this blog post is about Athletic Greens Australia and AG1.

Many people also think AG1 is very expensive and there may be cheaper alternatives in the market. As usual, do your own research on ingredients, heavy metals, and what the antioxidant equivalent is of some of the ingredients.

Also, try to look for products that are not animal products, eg manufactured ethically. Any nutritional supplement should be produced at a TGA-registered facility and have a good manufacturing practice. Also, be wary of discount codes when buying these supplements!

Remember, as with all supplements, a healthy diet should be a key part of your overall plan of attack to feel healthier.

If you are unsure of Athletic Greens or AG1, have a look at this award-winning supplement.
